The Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales* (AIESEC) was founded in 1948 after the Second Wolrd War.
There was a burning need to bridge the gap across peoples and cultures as well as pressure for universities to produce capable individuals to rebuild the economy after the war.
In light of the need, 8 European university students started an initiative to exchange students among countries, in which they aim to make international friends and gain cultural understanding in order to create harmony in the world.
While this thought is quite common today, AIESEC was a pioneering student organization in the world with such a vision after the Second World War.
*The French full name is no longer in use nowadays, as AIESEC has expanded to students of other backgrounds and not restricted only to students in Economics and Commerce.
