We offer two exchange programmes to HKU students.

Global Community Development Programme

A wide variety of projects that lead to the creation of cross-cultural positive impact and your own self-development as well as skill development. You will work in various social, community developmental projects together with a team of interns from all over the world. Duration is from 6 – 18 weeks in Summer 2012.

  

The types of exchange are broad, including:

1. NGO-based internships:

   Work at foreign NGOs to address local problems specific to the country you are visiting. Members can gain better knowledge of the work of an NGO and gain an amazing cultural experience.

   - Daily administration, fundraising, research, etc for NGO
   
   

2. Project Management:

   Organize conferences, seminars, workshops and learning events on issues including HIV/Aids, climate change, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and more.
   
   

3. Cultural Camps:

   Run trainings and events in schools and orphanages on issues of cultural sensitivity and diversity, healthy lifestyle, leadership, personal development and effectiveness to raise cultural awareness in youth.

… and many more projects on different issues that relate to local needs.

Specific Criteria

• Year 1 or above students with high incentive of going abroad
• High awareness of global issues, open to different cultures
• Leave Hong Kong before 30^th June, 2012

Global Internship Programme

4-18 months overseas paid internship experience.
In general, there are about 4000 internship opportunities available in both developed and developing countries in various fields. Salary is paid according to the local living standard of the country.

  

The broad fields of work include:

1. Management Internship(~65% of total)

   These are business related internships, usually of medium to long-term (6-12 months).

   - Positions in Marketing / Accounting / Human Resources / Finance / Management / Customer Service
   - Positions usually in operational level
   - Usually work in company / organization of small or medium size
   
   

2. Technical Internship(~20% of total)

   These are internships related to management and development in web, software, networks and databases, plus some engineering, usually of medium to long-term (6-12 months).

   - Positions in Software / System development / Programming
   - Relevant skills / experience in the field is required
   
   

3. Educational Internship(~15% of total)

   These are internships related to promotion, curriculum development, teaching and counseling in the education sector. They are shorter in duration (6-12 months).

   - Mainly work in schools / language institutions for Language Education
   - Require excellent English speakers and prefer to have relevant work experience

Some Management and Technical internships are multi-national companies (Global Exchange Partners of AIESEC).
There are around 15-20 opportunities available from time to time. They are very competitive (~200 applicants competing for one internship), which requires highly qualified academic background and working experience.

Specific Criteria

• Year 2 or above / Bachelor / Master students with high incentive of going abroad
• Have at least 8 weeks of internship(s) / full-time / part-time experience in any of the following fields:
  - Marketing / Sales / Finance / Accounting / Business Administration related
  - Software development / Programming
  - Language Education
• You have advantage if you:
  - Speak a specific language (e.g. Japanese / German / Spanish)
  - Have full-time work experience
  - Have international work / exchange experience
  - Leave Hong Kong before 30^th June, 2012
